Can Rats Get Parasites?
Parasites are common in rodents. The most common is the scabies mite, which causes a lot of irritation and itching in the animals. The most recognizable is the itching and scratching of the animals, after which scabs appear on the skin and redness. Fortunately, there are various products specially developed for rodents that can help. In this category you will find all products that can be safely used for rats. Never just take a product that is intended for dogs, cats or other animals for your Rat, always consult a veterinarian about this.
Do rats have sensitive airways?
The respiratory tract of rats is often a weak spot of the animals. Many rats suffer from a chronic respiratory problem. Animals with complaints should not be given dusty bedding. During stress, sensitive animals can also suffer from respiratory problems. This can especially occur during transport. A closed and safe transport box is a must. In addition, a calming spray or cloth can help to take away the sharp edges of the stress.
Can Herbs Support Rat Health?
Rats are definitely not herbivores, but just like in the wild, the animals help themselves medicinally by eating herbs as needed. Thyme can provide relief for the respiratory tract.
Does my Rat have a nosebleed?
Fortunately, this is not the case in most cases, but the nose can still turn red. This has to do with the substance " Porphyrin". This is a red substance that mixes with the fluid in the nose and/or eyes and can thus color the nose and eye area red. It is absolutely not harmful, but it does indicate that the Rat is not feeling well. A nosebleed is possible, but this looks very different from porphyrin.
