At temperatures above 25 ℃ it actually starts to get too hot for the hamster. When temperatures rise it is important that the hamster is supported. In addition to an ICEPOD or cooling stone, a thermal cover for the drinking bottle is recommended. This ensures that the water stays cool for longer. The drinking water should also be changed regularly so that the animals always have fresh and cool drinks. Please note: do not give ice-cold water, this can cause diarrhea. In addition, a thermal cover offers protection against algae growth in the drinking bottle.

Some useful tips that can help are:

  • Use cool ground cover such as: Back 2 Nature, Hemp fiber, Wood fiber
  • Use a cooling element such as the ICEPOD or Cooling Stone.
  • Use a thermal cover for the drinking bottle to keep drinking water pleasantly cool and prevent algae growth.
  • Preferably use houses made of ceramic or terracotta. These stay cooler than wooden houses.

Please note! Do not place the cooling stone in the sun, as this can cause it to heat up considerably.
