Order Guinea pig hay easily and quickly at DRD Knaagdierwinkel®

For fiber-rich guinea pig hay you have come to the right place at DRD Knaagdierwinkel® ! You can choose from different types and brands of guinea pig hay. Hay is very important for guinea pigs. This is because guinea pigs have a so-called 'full stomach'. Their stomach has little muscle and can therefore not independently transport the food to the next part of the intestine. This is supposedly taken over by the following food portions. This also explains why guinea pigs eat an average of 80-120 small portions of food per day. Their diet consists largely of hay!

Why can guinea pigs digest hay so well?

Thanks to the large caecum of guinea pigs (the so-called fermentation chamber). That's where the fine dietary fibers from the hay go. There they are converted into proteins, vitamin B and vitamin K by special bacteria.

The cecal droppings (grape-shaped and surrounded by a mucus layer) come from the cecum, which are ingested by guinea pigs. This is a natural process that is very important for health. Thanks to hay, this entire process is maintained and promoted. Hay is therefore an indispensable component of the guinea pig's daily diet.
