For mice and rats, the hammock can be hung higher in the enclosure. Mice and rats are good climbers that like to sleep at the top of the enclosure. Make sure that any fall is always broken.

For Dwarf hamsters and hamsters the hammock should be hung a little lower, these animals can't climb very well and can't see depth. An exception to this is the Chinese Dwarf hamster which can climb better.
