What are his Gerbil toys?

Well, we think that these are things that the Gerbils enjoy in one way or another. Take for example a toy made of straw to sink their teeth into and destroy. It may sound a bit strange to buy something that is going to be destroyed, but the animals need something like that too. During the destruction, the teeth are flossed and sharpened and of course it prevents boredom and therefore problem behavior!

What different toys are there for Gerbils?

The objective is particularly important when choosing toys. For example, one toy has training as its objective. These are the intelligence toys, where the animals have to search for treats. These toys ensure that the animals are mentally challenged and do not get bored. The reward after finding the treat gives a great positive stimulus and makes the animals happy.

  1. Digging and tunneling toys: Gerbils love to dig and tunnel. Provide them with digging toys such as sandboxes or deep bowls filled with chinchilla sand that they can dig and tunnel in.

  2. Hiding Places: Provide hiding places where gerbils can feel safe, such as small houses, coconuts, or tubes they can crawl into.

  3. Chew Toys: Gerbils love to chew, so give them toys that are safe to chew on, such as wooden blocks, willow branches, or unpainted cardboard tubes. This will also help wear down their teeth.

  4. Exercise wheels: An exercise wheel is an essential toy for gerbils. We have a separate category for these, where you will find all the exercise wheels that are suitable for gerbils.

As we mentioned before, there are also "demolition toys", which we simply need too!

TIP! Willow balls are super fun! Take a willow ball, hide some pumpkin seeds in it and let the Gerbils struggle to get the pumpkin seeds out.

There are also toys that can be placed in the enclosure occasionally, such as a maze for example.

Why do gerbils destroy their toys?

Demolition is natural behavior! Gerbils use their teeth to gnaw, expand tunnels and investigate materials. This behavior is healthy and prevents boredom and overgrown teeth. "Demolition toys" therefore help both mentally and physically.

How often should I change the toys?

Variety is important to prevent boredom. We recommend:

  • Exchange a number of toys every week
  • Add something new or surprising every now and then
  • Introduce seasonal toys or DIY projects

An element of surprise keeps your gerbils mentally sharp and active.

What if my gerbil shows no interest in the toys?

Not every gerbil is immediately enthusiastic. Try:

  • Toys with fragrant snacks or herbs
  • Toys that move or rustle
  • Variation with other materials or shapes

Patience is important. Gerbils sometimes need time to explore new toys.

Why are toys so important for gerbils?

Toys prevent boredom, obesity and problem behavior. They stimulate:

  • Mental challenge
  • Physical movement
  • Dental care
  • Natural behavior such as digging and foraging

In short: toys contribute to a happy and healthy gerbil life.

What is the difference between regular toys and foraging toys?

Regular toys encourage movement or gnawing, while foraging toys mimic food-seeking behavior. Foraging requires gerbils to work to find their food – making it fun and educational.

Why are foraging toys good for gerbils?

❤ Stimulate Natural Behavior: Foraging toys mimic the natural behavior of Gerbils , which is searching for food in their environment. By challenging them to search and dig for their food, their natural instincts are stimulated and they stay active and satisfied.

❤ Physical Activity: Foraging toys encourage Gerbils to be active and move around. They have to walk around, dig, push and pull to get to the treats. This promotes exercise and helps maintain a healthy weight and physical condition.

❤ Environmental Enrichment: Foraging toys add an element of challenge and variety to a Gerbil 's living environment. It makes their daily lives more interesting and prevents them from becoming bored in a monotonous environment. This can lead to better overall well-being.

❤ Prevents Overeating: Foraging toys make the feeding process slower and more challenging. This makes Gerbils have to work harder to get to their food, preventing them from eating large amounts at once. This helps prevent overeating and weight problems.

In short, foraging toys for Gerbils provide both physical and mental stimulation, help prevent boredom and promote natural behavior. It is a great way to improve their well-being and quality of life.
