Gerbils are desert animals that naturally come from warm areas, but that does not mean they can withstand heat. In the wild, Gerbils have a special way of looking for cooling.

Yes, Gerbils also need cooling in the summer when it gets really hot. You might say that they are desert animals that are used to warm temperatures, but that is not entirely true. In the wild, animals protect themselves against both heat and cold by digging tunnels. Depending on the temperature, the animals dig the tunnels deeper or less deep to regulate the temperature. Unfortunately, they don't have this luxury at our house and we have to lend a helping hand!

When is cooling necessary for Gerbils?

We recommend keeping an eye on the animals at temperatures above 25°C. If the animals show signs of heat, for example by lying down on a plateau or the ground cover, this can be a signal to offer cooling.

Some useful tips for Gerbils that can help during hot days:


NB! Do not place the cooling stone in the sun, as it can heat up considerably.
