It doesn't really matter, but the animals would certainly appreciate a little challenge. In America, people sometimes make entire playgrounds in the garden for the squirrels and it's great to see how the animals acrobatically climb over everything to get to their beloved acorn!
How do I know if I have squirrels nearby?
Squirrels sleep in trees, it doesn't necessarily have to be a whole forest. If there are a few trees, especially oak trees, in the area, then there is a good chance that there are also squirrels nearby. You can test this by making a feeding place for the animals.
