Degus are very sensitive to sugary and energy-rich food. Sweets, fruit and sugary vegetables may be given as a snack every now and then. Snacks sweetened with sugar or honey should be avoided as much as possible. Diabetes in a degu can be recognized by the frequent urination and small white spots in the lens of the eye.
