Product description

Beaphar Anti-scabies 75 ml for Rodents & Rabbits!

Anti-Scabies 75ml is to combat (scabies) mites. The first signs of a (scabies) mite infection are redness of the skin and severe itching. The skin swells and open wounds and scabs form around the eyes and ears. These wounds can become infected, causing a lot of pain. A (scabies) mite infection is highly contagious. This infection occurs quite easily when resistance is reduced due to a weakened immune system. Too high an ambient temperature, poor ventilation, unhygienic housing and nutritional deficiencies therefore increase the risk of a (scabies) mite infection.

Against worms, lice, mites
Effective for 4 weeks

Active substance: Ivermectin 0.02%

Instructions for use Beaphar Anti-scabies 75 ml

Instructions for use and dosage: Protect the animal's head during spraying. Spray from a distance of 30cm from back to front. Spray against the direction of the hair so that the liquid reaches the skin.

Adult guinea pigs: 2-3 spray mists (±2-3ml)
Young guinea pigs (4-9 weeks)
Rats: 1 spray mist (±1ml)
Rabbits older than 4 weeks: 2 spray mists (±2ml) per kg body weight

Repeat the treatment after 1 week. Treat affected areas on the head with a soaked cotton pad. Prevent the product from getting into the mouth, eyes or nose. Tips: Place sick animals separately and treat all rodents present to prevent reinfection. Remove the bedding and clean the enclosure with plenty of soap and water. Provide good nutrition, hygiene and housing to prevent recurrence.

What are mites?

Mites are very small and virtually invisible to the naked eye. There are different types of mites, one type of mite causes more discomfort than the other. The complaints of your rabbit, guinea pig or other rodent are therefore also related to the type of mite that the animal is suffering from.

Your pet can suffer from mites through contact with them in the hay or straw. Wild birds, rats and mice can also spread mites. Mites can also easily be passed on by infected animals. They also hide in the ground cover and cracks and seams of the cage. So good hygiene of your rabbit, guinea pig or hamster's enclosure is also very important to prevent mites. Did you know that some mites on your pet are even contagious to humans?

What types of mites are there?

Scabies mite

Scabies is common in guinea pigs and other rodents. Scabies is caused by a mite that literally burrows into the skin. This really causes a lot of discomfort for your guinea pig or rodent:

- Extreme itching, which can even cause a seizure
- Lots of scratching and biting
- Loss of coat and bald spots
- Unexpected jumps
- Scabs, possibly resulting in bacterial infections
- Wounds often start around the lips and nose, later covering the rest of the body
- Losing weight and less appetite

If your pet suffers from scabies, be alert to your own skin. Scabies is also contagious to humans.

Fur mite

The Cheyletiella is the 'fur mite'. This mite species causes little or no itching. In general, this mite is not very contagious to humans, but it could possibly cause mild skin inflammation in humans. You can recognize an infection in your rabbit, guinea pig or other rodent by the following symptoms:

- Flakes in the coat/dandruff
- Loose hair
- Bald spots
- Possibly dark spots on the hair
- No or very mild itching

The fur mite is best determined by combing with a very fine comb (for example a flea comb) and then examining it under a microscope. In the case of an infestation with fur mites, the mites and eggs are visible.

Mites in rodents and rabbits

You can tackle both fur mites and scabies mites with Beaphar Anti-Scabies for rabbits and guinea pigs. You use this effective spray against the direction of the hair, so that the liquid reaches the skin. Repeat the treatment after 1 week. You can treat smaller rodents with Beaphar Anti-Parasite . A handy squeeze pipette that you administer into the animal's neck. This pipette is effective for 4 weeks.

Other tips for combating mites

- Keep infected animals separated from others, because mites are highly contagious
- Treat all rodents to prevent reinfestation
- Also ensure good hygiene. Once a week, remove the entire ground cover and clean the enclosure thoroughly with, for example , Beaphar Multi Cleaner
- Also treat the stay with Mite Blocker Combi ; a product without insecticides and very effective against mites
- Also consider cleaning/replacing toys and houses in the enclosure, especially in the seams and cracks of wooden toys/houses where mites can reside and keep re-infecting your animal.

With these tips, your guinea pig, rabbit, hamster or other small rodent will quickly be in great shape again! Of course, mites are not the only cause that can cause changes to the skin and coat. Mold and lice can also be the cause of this.
